The World Press Photo is famous for holding the prestigious “World Press Photo of the year” competition. These photos will leave anyone speechless and astound. Their photography skill sure can move anyone. Let’s see the winner of the “World Press Photo of the year” from 2004-2012 who moved the whole world with their photos.

Taking pictures with blur motion

Do you want to take pictures that give you a sense of motion and speed? Well then you have come to the right place because taking pictures with blur motion is no longer limited to the professional photographers. Yes, even you can take pictures with blur motion. With the right technique and a little bit of practice you can easily take such pictures. Let’s see some of the steps that you will have to follow to capture such pictures.

The first step is to choose the type of blur you want. There are two types of blur. The first one is blurred background with subject in focus and the other one is blurred subject with background in focus.

Use of tripod:

The first thing you have to do before taking a picture with blur motion is to set the camera on tripod. Do not hold it on your hand and try to shoot the picture. If you hold the camera on your hand then everything in the picture might get blurred due to the shaking of hands. If you use tripod then the camera will stay still and won’t shake.

Slow the shutter speed:

The first step is to slow the shutter speed of the camera. The shutter of the camera allows the light from the subject to enter the camera. If the shutter speed is low it will give enough time to capture the whole movement of the subject across the frame. This will create a kind of blur. You should determine the shutter speed by calculating, how much time it would take for the subject to move from one side to another.

Adjust ISO:

You should consider the amount of light when you are trying to capture a picture with blur motion. The slow shutter speed will allow high amount of light to enter the camera. So, if it is a day time then there will be high amount of light present in the background. This will cause overexposure and the picture will be damaged. To prevent this from happening, you can adjust the ISO to a low level according to the light present in the background. You can also use light blocking filter and place it in front of the lens or use small apertures. If you have a SLR camera then you can use the shutter priority mode which will automatically adjust the ISO and apertures after you input the required shutter speed.

Use of panning:

In some cases, you might get the perfect blur if you move your camera along with the subject. This is called panning.

Practice makes man perfect:

If you don’t get the right blur motion in your first try, then do not feel down, because it is a hard job. As the saying “Practice make man perfect”, just practice and practice until you get the hang of the techniques.

(When you use your camera in places like mountain, sandy areas, busy street etc; then it will get dirty. The dirt and dust may hamper the camera so you have to clean it. But, you should know the methods of cleaning the camera, otherwise you might damage it.)

You won’t always get the opportunity to click pictures in a clean place or rooms. When you go to a trip, then you are bound to face dirt and mud, which will dirty your camera. If you leave it like that then your camera will get damaged after some time. So, if you care about your camera and the money with which you bought it then always remember to clean your camera from time to time. Just because you have read that you should clean your camera, doesn’t mean you take your camera, pour water on it and scrub it with scrubber.  That’s a big NO! Cameras are delicate instrument so you have to handle it with care. Let’s see the methods of cleaning the camera.

Methods of cleaning the camera

Lens:

Dirt and dust may get stuck in the lens of the camera and make it dirty. You shouldn’t try to clean it by using water or by using your finger. You should use a lens cleaning fluid, lens brush, hand blower and dry lens paper.

  • You can use a lens cleaning fluid to remove oily and dried-on stains. Only use this if necessary. Put a drop or two on a cloth and then use it on the lens in circular motion.
  • You can use a hand brush. Just gently slide it over the lens.
  • You can use a hand blower and blow pressurized air on the lens. But be careful otherwise the lens may get damaged. Do not try to blow on the lens using your mouth.
  • You can use a dry lens paper to clean the lens. Gently rub it on the lens in circular motion.

The body of the camera:

The bodies of the camera can get dirty. If you don’t want the stain to remain forever in your camera’s surface then take a soft cloth and clean it. You can also dampen the cloth a little and clean the exterior of the camera. Remember use it only on the exterior. You can also use nail polish remover to remove stains that cannot be cleaned by plain water. But be sure to remove the nail polish remover by cleaning the surface with plain water later on.

Sensors:

If your camera have interchangeable lens, then its sensor is bound to get dirty. So, you have to clean it as well. Even though the sensor is covered with a filter, if anything around the sensor is scratched then you will need to take the camera to repair center. So, only use hand blower on the sensors and do not even think about cleaning it with water and cloth.
